I'm so excited I found this forum!!

My name is Candace, 25 y/o F living in Southern Ca and currently have one hatchling desert tortoise. Hes only 6months old, and my 1st tortoise, so I'm still learning. --> It looks like I've come to the right site!

That looks like a sulcata IMHO. different species similar care.

I also thought sulcata when I saw it, but then I googled pics of desert tortoises. Now I don't know... Oh well. Welcome Candace. Prepare to be overwhelmed with great information. We are glad to have you.

lol well, I actually got him as a gift for christmas and my sister told me it was a sulcata. Only after taking him into a reptile store and the store owner practically pushing me out the door because he didn't want an illegal animal in his shop did i find out that he was a CDT.

Now looking at 2 tort's side by side, they're totally different to me. certainly the leg scales, and just their shape in general. <3 my little ninja tho.

Because native North American tortoises (Gopherus spp.) are endangered, they cannot be kept legally without a permit.
