I would say the one advantage of a good breeder is that they can offer a little of personal attention and support not only in picking your tortoise but answering questions before and after they arrive. As I said, I went the store route, so I don't have personal experience with a breeder but just from being on the forum, it seems a lot of them here are willing to go that extra mile.
But then, they also post a ton of advice for store buyers such as me.
So, I guess I would say look at all options and go with the tortoise that finds you.
