Hey everyone, I'm James from Alabama and I've just recently purchased a baby leopard tortoise. I love my little guy, he's very active and eats like a piggy. He gets baths daily in warm water for about 15 minutes, and he's been eating a diet of spring mix and grassland tortoise pellets mushed up. His temps are 95f basking/ 87f warm/ 78f cool. My only problems are his humidity stays about 60 and I'm trying to think of ways to raise it, and I've noticed his umbilical scar is black, it's smooth with his shell, not mushy and no smell to it,just soft which I've read is normal, but how long until it goes away? Do I need to be applying neosporin or anything to it?ImageUploadedByTortoise Forum1457968278.758491.jpgImageUploadedByTortoise Forum1457968305.608744.jpgImageUploadedByTortoise Forum1457968330.877364.jpg

Hi James, and welcome to the Forum!

I don't know what to tell you about the umbilical scar. I guess just keep an eye on it. I've really never seen one looks like yours.

Welcome to TFO!! :tort: I don't know about the scar, if your tort is healthy and active hopefully it'll just heal up. I wouldn't put any antibiotic on it without the advice of a vet or someone who has experience with that type of thing though. I would up your cool temp to a minimum of 80...humidity and temps under 80 can cause respiratory infections....it happened to both of my torts when I first got them. What is your night temp?

For humidity, you'll need to find a way to cover the enclosure. See this thread for more info: http://www.tortoiseforum.org/threads/closed-chambers.32333/

Also, I would take a good read through this Leopard care sheet...it helped me a ton when I was starting out: http://www.tortoiseforum.org/threads/how-to-raise-a-healthy-sulcata-or-leopard-version-2-0.78361/

Ok, I'd make sure your temps never get lower than 80...and once you get that enclosure covered your humidity should go way up.
