So... Having been let down by one of the breeders, we have found a new breeder who has a Hermann ready for collection tomorrow. It is about 3 inches long right now, totally adorable. I've started putting together it's home and thought I'd post a photo of the set up so far. It is in a large cage with the lighting (dual uvb/basking bulb) affixed to the top. This is not visible in the photo. The bathing/drinking dish will be collected tomorrow along with tort. I have some live plants growing in my window sill which I hope to transfer once tort has settled. I do not want to overwhelm it with too much going on.
Please forgive the poor lighting. We plan on buying a rodent type ladder that will give access to the upper level. As it stands at the minute, I'm unsure whether easy access will be gained as the tunnel is vertical. However. I have seen how agile these little beauties can be. Underneath the upper level is another little hide away with plenty of substrate to burrow in to.. All feedback is welcomed, I'm a first time tort owner and want to ensure I'm doing everything right.

Please note. The ladder we intend to get is more of an elevated tunnel to reduce the chances of tort falling off. I will also be putting barriers in places to prevent any falling from the upper level. Similar to the border I have placed internally in the cage. Please see next photo.

I have also built up the substrate in the back right corner to give a bit of additional depth for burrowing and to make things a little bit more exciting and not just one level

Congrats, how exciting. I would put the water dish on the lower level, at least until you have had enough time to observe how much s/he actually goes to,the second level.

We will be collecting a water dish tomorrow when we pick up the tort, this will be placed on the lower level as there is currently no elevated access to the upper level. The new dish is larger than the plant pot saucer dish which you see to allow for the tort to bathe if it so wishes.
