My family has had this turtle for 20 years and I recently took it in to my apartment. We think she laid an egg (it was oblong shaped and thumb-sized) a few months after we got her, but we were originally told she was male. So, her name is Fred. Can anyone ID what type and sex my gender-ambiguous box turtle is?

More info, pics, and questions to come!

If it weren't for the egg you found, I would say Fred was male too. However because of the egg, I'm just going to say that Fredricka needs her beak trimmed. She's an eastern box turtle - Terrapene carolina carolina

A very warm welcome to the forum!:D

Good looking tort, though I agree with @Yvonne G who mentioned a trim of his/her beak.

Is a box turtle actually a tortoise?
