Some photos capturing just how competitive and aggressive these mostly mild mannered specie get when it comes to their favorite foods.
They get extremely focused and loudly hiss trying to get the food.

Nightcrawlers and papaya. They go crazy even when they smell worms and instinctively start digging the substrate. This makes me think that at least juveniles seek and consume more protein then suggested in published studies.

You should see them hunt mice. I have yet to catch video or photo. But we get mice in the winter that come in the greenhouse. I've seen one of the male emys plunge and snatch the bugger. Have not seen the mice anymore, let's just say that.

Great to know. Now that they are bigger I'll try pinky once a month.
