This lion tried to crack open the tortoise shell but failed! I often read that wild tortoises never suffer from pyramiding and pet tortoises suffer from this due to their owners giving them wrong food/living conditions but the tortoise here obviously has some pyramiding and he's wild (I'd be a bit wild too if a lion had just tried to terminate me! )

Very cool pictures! Did you take them? Seems like there are chewing incidents in the wild also :)

Living conditions in the wild are rarely perfect, but the pyramiding doesn't seem severe to me. Maybe he didn't have a humid enough hide ;)

Here at my place, I worry more about the pocket sized, carnivorous critters than the motorcycle sized, carnivores out and about. But that's just me…
