Turned my 40 gal breeder into a closed chamber, with lights inside.
Maintaining 90% humidity day and night.
Lights: 10.0 reptisun tube, 75 watt exoterra basking light.
*light ontop is CHE for night only*
Completed this in october but haven't shared yet :)
Added new substrate today:small layer of coco coir with reptibrk on top.
*HOPEFULLY* the bugs will not come back this time.
previously used -> cypress mulch

Tanzie <3's her new home!!!
btw-> she has gained only 20 grams since i got her in mid october totaling 89 grams.... does this seem slow. feedback would be much appreciated!

sorry pics are sideways :/

EnJOY :D

Looks great. The bugs probably will come back, but, they (flying)ones usually dye off fairly quick and the tiny mites usually won't bother anything. Unless you get dirt like Heathers that hatched a whole colony:D
So don't add dirt.

Also, a good thing to remember. Any substrate that is safe to bake, should be before using. It will ward off the bugs longer. Boiling also will do the trick.

Thank you for share this new enclosure. The bugs are my worries too. I been thinking to use coco coir but 1.) I don't know what to do if tortoise pee in it? 2.) I'm worry of bugs and it may smell. How you take care of your substrate since Oct? Thanks again.

Torts pee... You can periodically rinse out the substrate or do a full change all together. I do it about once a year.

Btw, the coir smells fantastic! So coconutty :D
