Laws against having tortoises

So my mother just moved to MA and some people told her it was illegal to have tortoises in that state. Any idea if thats true or not?

Best thing to find out for sure. Is to check the states regulations on illegal animals in that state. Lots of states have laws against box turtles and that may be what those people are refering too. Parks and wildlife in that state is your best source for legalities.
