It's not rot yet, at least it doesn't look like any I have seen. I would be sure to keep the area clean and dry just incase. Be sure the top layer of substrate stays dry. You could clean it up with warm water and a soft tooth brush and then put some antibacterial cream on it incase it's turning into rot or a fungus made you can stop it. If it gets worse, then try an anti fungal cream.

Oh and don't worry about asking question, specially if you have health concerns. That's what a lot of members are here for. To help better lives of torts and turtles.

@JakeDevoe have you gotten athlete's foot cream yet? Some antibacterial ointment, athlete's foot cream, maybe some betadine for a first aid kit in preparation for shell rot. It's good to have it on hand.

Yup! I put it on the spots. Do I wash it off after a certain amount of time.

I personally just leave it. I apply it after soaks so it washes off anyway. Then I wipe the area dry and reapply it if needed.

For Shell rot you have to use terramicine and a little bit vaseline for protection.

I bought this guy as a red foot but do you guys think he could be a yellow foot? He has much brighter coloration and his plastron as you saw is very yellow, while my red foot gypsy has a black plastron.

Looks like a redfoot, let's have a look at the top of the head to confirm. Gypsy is probably a Brazilian (cherryhead). This one looks northern.

They both look like redfoots to me. None of them have the parallel prefrontal scales extending to the nose tip, although Oliver's groin does not look so deep.

Brazilians(cherryheads) have a darker plastron than the northerns. They usually have red heads too, hence the nickname 'cherryhead'. Northerns tend to have yellow/orange heads.

Let's see what Carl(cdmay) says.
