Introduction

Hi. I am brand new to this site and the world of forums. I just adopted a California desert tortoise 2 months ago. She is supposed to be in her forties and been by her self for over a decade. Yesterday I found her laying eggs on the surface. The eggs for thin and had ripped open. So the yolk and the shells came out separately. Does anyone have an advise of what to do. I took her to a vet specializing in tortoises a mo th ago with a clean bill of health. Thanks

Welcome! I would wonder if her calcium is off? And congrats on your new Desert Tortoise...they are so very awesome and it is good of you to take her in

I would imagine she did not get enough calcium but that would be just a guess.

If the eggs were broken inside her, she probably should go back to the vet so he can examine her. Its not good if broken eggs are inside a tortoise.
