Hello!

Could someone please help with identifying what species of tortoise this is?

A friend of the family no longer wanted this tortoise, and it ended up in my parents house. Me being a reptile guy then received
pictures asking what species it is and I have absolutely no idea because I generally have nothing to do with tortoises 🫠. So I am here
to check with some more knowledgeable folk.

Any help identifying would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Welcome! There doesn't seem to be a horn on the end of the tail which a Hermann's tortoise would have. If there are 'spurs' on the inner thighs (I can't quite tell from the photos) then it's likely a Greek tortoise, although I'm unsure on the subspecies. The tortoise looks like it's being kept on pure sand which isn't recommended. The eyes seem quite sunken so tortoise is likely dehydrated. Ask your parents to give tortoise a shallow soak in warm water (enough water to cover the tail). I'd recommend sending your parents this care guide: https://tortoiseforum.org/threads/the-best-way-to-raise-any-temperate-species-of-tortoise.183131/
