Interesting. Yes, a sulcata in the Sonoran Desert could harm native desert tortoises. However, I have to wonder how well this tortoise dealt with the winter, which is colder in the Sonoran than in its native Sahel. Perhaps its burrowing is enough to insulate it, but not necessarily.

Poor big ole babies...so glad they were discovered and re homed hopefully....it is totally unfair for them to have to endure the harsh weather if they do not need to......CDT have evolved to do what they do in that environment...while I believe the Sulcata can survive if forced to there is simply no way to tell how long it was there before being rescued....as they are a big tortoise it can take sooooo long for them to fail...also, their presence can be devastating for the CDT....
