Help!

Ok so I've had my tortoise (russian tort) for 5 days now and he is not active. I'm worried something is wrong. He wont eat food I put out even when set right infront of him. I talked to a guy at a petco and he said heat is a big factor with them being active and eating but his warm side of the enclosure is averaging 89. I know it has only been a few days but I'm worried. Anyone know what could be wrong?
