Help! We found this guy (or gal) in a duff pile, can anyone ID it for me? He has 5 toes…

It's an old male box turtle. He isn't in very good condition. Beak is overgrown and nails look odd. @DoubleD1996! Should be able to help you more. I would let it back outside where you found it. But wait for an expert. Welcome to the forum
Terrapene carolina triunguis - three toed box turtle - NOT native to California, so an escaped pet (that hasn't been receiving the best care).
What part of California are in you? are you interested in keeping it?
Needs a nail trim too...they look bent...
Definitely a three toe. Poor dude made a run for it.

Welcome to the club guys.....
That guy is pretty messed up and may be having a difficult time eating. Getting him hooked up with a member nearby who can properly fix his face might be possible. We have a huge amount of talent here with no limits on the help.
