My tortoise won't come out of his hide. I was wondering if it's the bulb because I have the zoo-med repti basking spot lamp? He's fine if I place him out of his hide but when he goes in his hide he stays there like forever. Would like some insight please I'm a new owner of my first tortoise. It's a giant South African leopard tortoise.

Hello and Welcome. We need a lot more info. The temps and humidity could be a big part of it. So, what are the temps? Basking and all over? What is the humidity? Substrate, type of bulbs heating elements other then the one bulb you mentioned? All the housing and care info you can think of will help us.

Temperatures are key. What is the temperature inside the hide? What is the temperature under the basking bulb?

It's around 80 deg under the hide and under the basking is 85 to 90deg
