RE: HELP!

That's an actinemys marmorata. They are protected throughout their range and no one is allowed to have them. The best thing you can do for the turtle is find a turtle rescue authorized to handle them. Are you very far from Arroyo Grande? Bob and Judy Thomas are authorized to rescue the pond turtles - 805 481-5222

Thanks Yvonne. Until I can get it somewhere how should it be housed? I probably have to wait till tomorrow or Saturday.

It's a water turtle and they are excellent climbers, being able to scale a 6' redwood fence. She probably would be ok overnight in a 5 gallon bucket with just enough water to cover the shell

Thank you! My brother is going to take me tomorrow to the same facility that let me adopt my Russians. They can't decline a turtle right?! :(

And is there anything I can do about his injury?

I'll give them a call, beforehand, but yes, I'll go there.

Take them to the place Yvonne mentioned. They are one of the few people that can LEGALLY take them. Any other people would have to show proof of proper legal work.

They need to have permits to rehab a native species, they may decline only bc they can face fines. The regulations are different than here in Canada. Check out this list: http://www.nwrawildlife.org/content/finding-rehabilitator

I would try to not over stress the little guy, turtles are remarkable healers...I have seen snappers with almost their entire beak crushed who have made a beautiful recovery. Keep him dark and quite, not sure about putting him in water if there is an open wound perhaps just a layer of damp paper towel, like Yvonne said make sure it is not very deep. Also do not transport it in water. Do not feed it. Good luck :)

Thank you! He or she will be in good hands tomorrow! I hope they're able to heal the little guy.
It seems really comfortable in the water at this point, and the wound doesn't necessarily look open, it's seems rather healed, although the bottom part of the beak seems to be going within the little guys mouth and he only pushes it out when in the water.
Also, he was found in the fields, like where crops are grown. So he's possibly faced some chemicals.
I just hope he turns out fine :(

GOOD GOOD ! Not to worry to much then if the wound is not open. I hope he is a good release candiate :D. And yes chemicals are a concern, but honestly our environments are so heavily poluted these days he probably had contact with chemicals right from day one in the egg. You and your dad are great people for taking time out of your day to help this little guy, if only more people were like you.
Cheers

I'm hoping that he will be fine!
I've already called Bob and Judy, they weren't available so I left a message. Hopefully they get back to me soon!
