New to the forum, my name is Jeff and from NY. I'm worked with animals for the last 10 years (including some time with redfoots). I recently decided to purchase a redfoot from a shop in FL , he/she will arrive next Tuesday (5/17). Have the tank setup and temps are ok. Just waiting for Piña to arrive, carapace kinda looks like a pineapple, no? Looking forward to spending time on here and learning and helping others as I can too.

Welcome to the Forum, Jeff!

The pineapple look is not the way they're supposed to look. They should have smooth carapaces. When RF tortoises are raised too dry, it causes them to grow what we call pyramided, or to have that pineapple look. It's not harmful or unhealthy, just cosmetic, and some of us kind of like the 'special' ones.

We have some pretty good info on RF tortoises at the Tortoise Library

Color pattern = Piña. Hope to have no pyramiding on him/her. I'm told only about a month old. I'll be sure to post some pictures. Already have lots of useful info from the site.
