Hey Guys. So I have currently 1 turtle in a 40 gallon tank with a lot of room to relax and play around in.

1. What do you believe is the maximum number of Russian Tortoises you can have in this 40 gallon tank?

2. If you can fit more than one in the tank are any considerations that I should look at? (i.e. males don't play well with each other, or keep the same type of turtle). This is because I want to add just one more but I'm not sure if I cant another Russian turtle but maybe a Greek one.

Thanks!

A 40 is fine to start a baby in, but much too small for even one adult Russian. I recommend against mixing species and I recommend against keeping pairs. If you want more than one tortoise it is best to house them separately. If you want multiple tortoises in one enclosure I recommend you keep just one male and several females and use a very large enclosure.
