Found a cute baby Turtle!

While my daughter was outside playing, she found this little guy. He is actually the second of this kind one we have found but this one was covered in little mites! I immediately rinsed as many off as I could.
I think it may be a type of mud turtle but would love to have some confirmation.

Probably just let it go at a nearby water source.
Well that's kinda the issue I'm having. Let me explain..
After moving back from wa state we discovered that the drainage area of our backyard had gotten clogged, basically turning it into a swamp. These guys must have been layed shortly before we moved back. We removed the debris and it is now dry. Will these little guys keep coming back to try and lay? My dogs will probably eat them if they do. I have no idea where the next closest pond/water area is. The first one I kinda hoped was just dropped by a bird, I turned it loose in the woods and wished it well, now I'm wondering if I should have done something else!
