Dont actualy have my two baby hermans yet but have paid a deposit for them and have brought a ferplast 100 indoor guinea pig cage and light/light clamp. have also brought reptile hide and two dishes for food/water. using top soil/play sand. will post a pic once i have it all set up.
does anyone else use this type of enclosure?

Yes, there are several folks here on the forum who use those type of cages for their babies.

I have my baby box turtles in a cement mixing tub outside, but I use the top part of the ferplast cage over the tub to keep my babies safe.

That is probably close to what I put mine in outside. It is my sisters old rabbit cage. It is better than the aquarium I got when I first got them, but I dodn't know anything about torts then. I don't care for dirt or sand.
