This may seem like an odd question, but at the moment I'm setting up an enclosure for a hatchling Greek tortoise. Most of the examples for the set up say to use a flat slate rock for the feeding area/ basking area. Would it be alright if i used a flat rock I found on the shores of lake superior? After I scrubbed it up all the way (of course). Also if i can use it would A ratio of bleach and water be effective in removing any harmful bacteria? I want the enclosure to look as colourful as possible, that's why I wanted to use this rock.

I use terra cotta plant saucers for food bowls, but you can use your rock for a basking spot.

I would boil it for a few minutes. You could also bleach it, rinse and soak, and then let it sun dry. Or do both!
