Extra scute?

I was just wondering, people always offer extra/missing scute tortoises for less than the "normal" ones.

Are tortoises with extra scutes harder to take care of or something? Do they have special needs throughout their life, or do they require the same care as a "normal" one?

The tortoise in question is the baby dalmatian hermann tortoise for sale on lllreptile.com, if it helps. There's no pic of the extra scute one, but there is a pic of the normal one.

I was just wondering if the extra scute one would be more difficult to take care of for a first time tortoise owner, or if they have a similar difficulty.

Thanks!

Just cosmetic, not one single thing different than the "perfect" or more proportioned scute babies. I personally love the crazy or different scute ones. : )

It has nothing to do with being healthy or not . It just a normal tortoise with extra scutes caused by high incubation temperatures . Plus it means is a girl . Higher incubation temps female lower male.

In my opinion, those extra scute ones are the better ones. ;) Normally there is no difference in health between the boring "normal" one and the special extra scute ones. :D :D

False! A male can have extra scutes. It's just more seem to be female.

Some seem to be genes, not temps.

Wow, I also love the extra scutes ! Id pay more for them ,don't tell anybody. Extra scutes are awesome I can spot individuals at a glance, love watching the growth and just find them interesting .mike I don't think it's always telling of sex but chances are it most likely female. kobmega ,go ahead and get the tort ,save a little money and enjoy your baby. Don't be afraid to ask for pictures of the exact turtle your buying .if they say it's not their policy tell them you'll shop somewhere else. I use A credit card and you can cancel payment at the slightest problem ,your credit comp will stand behind you 100 percent .....never understood why they were less money .
