I posted a forum with pictures a little while ago asking about pyramiding. Someone cmntd in the forum and said that my tort looked dehydrated because his legs were skinny..

I soak my tort every other day. Feed him a well balanced diet. And leave water in enclosure. Below I've posted pictures of him..focusing on his arms and legs..opinions please..

I don't think he looks dehydrated . I think it looks like he has metropolic bone disease . Add more calcium to the diet . Is this guy a rescue? He needs a lot of sun and or indoor uvb .

Yes he is a rescue. I live in pa do he has the indoor UVB during the cold months. When it's warm enough for him outside he is out there. I know mbd is not reversible..so I'm just trying to make him more healthy and hope he grows larger and stronger. I love him, idk what I would do if he does! ):

I had been putting some calcium supplements in his food ..aside of that do you recommend anything different? Food that have more Calcium than others?

MBD IS reversible. Pyramiding is not reversible.

Here is a diet sheet:

I would use a calcium w/ D3 supplement three times a week.

What are you using for indoor UV?

Then I am completely confused..how do you know a tort has mbd? And not just pyramiding ? Probably stupid question..but I'm completely lost. I thought I did a good bit of research in it..obviously not. His indoor UVB/heat is the mercury bulb.

I read through that forum. Clicked on the links to grow your own food. I want to start doing that! What are your favorites to feed your torts? Mine is not picky with grass. I just need to grow for when he is indoors--pa winters.

a good way to tell if an animal is dehydrated is if their eyes are sunken in....they kinda look dead. if your torts eyes are round or even bulgey he's not too far gone. that doesn't mean he isn't dehydrated at all. i can't see the eyes too well in the pictures.

You can go to tortoise table / UK and find a hole list of good foods. You can also go to the sulcata section and Tom has a good care sheet.
