Changed to an aquarium, now strangely battling heat.

I swapped over from a turned over dresser to a 55 gallon tank for my hatching redfoot today, and I'm having some problems with keeping the temperature nice and warm. Right now I have a CHE running 24/7 and it's about 79 degrees around the che which obviously means that it's cooler everywhere else. Was wondering if this is okay? I'm thinking of turning the che off at night which will drop temperatures to around 72 degrees

I made a top out of egg crates for the aquarium so it's not a closed enclosure... if my temps are too low what should I put over the egg crates?

Glass traps heat from your lamp better, making it LOTS hotter in there. Try a lower wattage for your bulb, or try a more open top, like bunny fence wire, so that the air can go out.
