started building a new home for my russian today, a 5x4 first floor and 5x2 second story.

It will be an upgrade from his 40 gallon tank. Can't wait to finish it. I will keep posting updates.

Please feel free to post advice and suggestions.

Added T8-10.0 UVB and 2nd story. I was hoping to finish it today, but I guess I need another day to work on this.

Almost done. Completed paint job, messed up on installing acrylic so have to make a trip to Home Depot tomorrow before I start filling up his substrate.

I wish I hadn't been so hasty to get my table together. I also wish I had more space to devote to a table.

Done with his enclosure, I messed up on substrate estimates so will be getting more coco coir tomorrow.

He was so excited after being transferred to his new enclosure. He was running around and checking out everything. Cucumber & carrot mix was waiting for him so that was a nice treat too.

I have two live plants right now. So I will be adding more in coming days.

Quick question, is it okay to use potting soil as his substrate?

Thanks
Nick

Yes, but try to find it without perlite. If you're shopping at a nursery or home improvement store, you can use top soil instead.
