My tortoise had a bubbly nose in the winter and its fine now. Ive seen it in other forums and was wondering whether its really drastic if they have a bubbly nose?:/

She has had a respiratory infection. It sounds like it has cleared of its own accord.

Once a tort has had one, they are apparently prone to getting them again and they can be very serious requiring antibiotic treatment.

As soon as you notice that, bump the heat all over up a little in the enclosure and for at night. Sometimes it will clear on it's own with a little higher temp. If it gets worse, then a vet visit may be in need. Let's hope it doesn't come back:D

A bubbly nose alone is not a trigger to rush to the vet....as mentioned previously, if it is a clear runny/bubbly nose alone and not other appetite loss, loss of activity--lethargy...then bump the temps to no less than 80-85 (even through the night) and let the basking spot remain....if warm outside, the more outside warm dry time the better....

Yes, if your tort has been diagnosed with a legitimate RI (tested and diagnosed) then they will always be a carrier of that infection even if the symptoms are under control...and a tortoise can live a long long happy life if the symptoms are under control.

Now, if you just have a clear bubble form the nose from time to time then you could have a number of things....low humidity, parasites, tortoise that is experiencing some type of stress or simply bubbles can also happen during or after a soak, or during or after a feeding on a wet juicy type food....so clear bubbles alone do not automatically equal a RI....
