Best substraight

Would like to know what is the best substraight out there. I have a russian tortoise if that matters. Thanks

I have reptile mulch (pet smart brand)

I would think un-colored, 100% organic cypress mulch from Lowe's or Home Depot would be a good start. A lot cheaper than anything bought at a petstore.

Maybe mix it with coconut coir.

I still believe 100% in Coco Coir. I use it for my Russian and my Sulcata.
