I think so yes, like I said I am no expert, but this has worked for me with many plants.

I think your going to find your plants won't thrive if you plant them directly into the substrate they'll quickly be eaten and trampled by your Tort.

I use these screwtop food containers, with a 1" hole drilled in the lid and a couple of 1/8" holes drilled in the sides and bottom.

I plant pothos and mint and wandering Jew rooted cuttings in damp cypress mulch in the containers, and water them once a week.

When my tortoise munches the plant down to stems, I switch out the container for another one.
