My baby is now about a year old.

I found that his upper jaw is too long so he can't bite food at one time, should try many times.

I trimmed it with a nail clipper but it is still too long.

Do you think it is fine or needs another treat?

So his bottom jaw is not growing out like it should huh? Even with another beak trim, would the bottom beak ever meet with the top? Yes, it is a bit long. Looks like you are going to have to do trims often. :(

You can still take off more of that beak. Do it in very bright light so you can see where the blood supply is.

Are you feeding him on a flat stone or piece of slate? If not, please do. It helps keep the beak filed down. My Leo is almost two and has always eaten from a piece of flag stone and his beak is perfect.

I've bought some cuttle bones and will feed it.
Sometimes my leo tries to bite feeding plate but it isn't hard enough and too slippery though.

I will keep on eye on him whether his break goes well.
Thank you for advices.

Would a terra cotta dish also help to file down a beak, or does it have to be stone?

This case looks more like an overbite than excess beak.

That's what I am seeing an overbite, which because the two beaks don't match the top beaks gets no wearing and grows too long. I don't think the feeding surface would be enough of a solution.

I agree with you on this. The lower jaw looks a lot shorter than the upper. I don't think I've ever seen it like that.

hmmm i have a simple solution,
let him eat cuttlebone, over grown beaks happened because the tortoise didn't exercised, you can give cuttlebone and they will eat it, and scrape the beak naturally

I had to have my rescued Russian's beak trimed at the vet because the upper was so long she looked like a bird. I now give her fresh cuttle bones all the time and she eats and drinks from terra cotta dish's and its help'd to some point.
