Okay I just have to say how much I love animals!!!! they love you for everything you do and I do have a quick question... do sulcatas need humidity and what do the numbers mean like at the end of the post like... 1.5.6
The best thing you can do is read, read, read - and ask, ask, ask. There are plenty of people here with brilliant husbandry skills - so you've come to the right place.
Thanks for all the welcomes and my sulcata is housed in a 40 gallon breeder and is 25 weeks old, coconut fiber and dirt mixed for substraight, and the heat in the hotspot fluctuates between 100 and 105 and the cool spot stay between 80 and 90. I have done more reading about these animals than I have done reading in my whole life there is always water available that he loves to play in and soon to be two little aloe plants in there. if you have any more tips or fun suggestions about how to help make better and maybe just jazz up the tank alittle more it would be very much appreciated
Hello and welcome. Sounds like you are on the right track. In addition to what you've got going, I also recommend a humid hide, daily soaks until 6-12 months of age, and shell spraying 3-4 times a day.
I completely agree with Tom - he's one guy to listen to! I've learned a lot reading through his threads... a lot!
I like to decorate Sheldon's table, but I try to keep it natural for him, too. I'm a rock hound, so I put a huge chunk of rough rhodochrosite in one corner of his enclosure, and I've got a Buddha statue that sits on top of his top level hide. I put smooth stones around his water dish which hold heat, and he likes to bask on them. I dunno - I try to make it nice to look at, but fully set up for his needs.
Humidity is super important, though... I also second what Tom said about you being on the right track.
Also look around on Google Images, you might find some neat inspiration.
Hi and Welcome! ...I know what you mean about reading the info on these guys. You can/will spend weeks on here reading and looking at great pics and will have only scratched the surface. Throw us some pics and let us know where you are. (we love that kinda stuff)
Not really sure how to put pics on here=) and I forgot to add that I do a daily soaking on my little guy lump.....how should I make a humid hide? I also have a 4 year old sulcata, I have been under the impression that the big one dont need humidity , I do soak her every other day and she does have water available at all times,I rarely see her drink but the pee seems normal. I am located in Lebanon Oregon
I agree with what Tom said. Also when they are young and small humidity is probably one of the most single important factors when raising a Sulcata. They older and larger they get though the less and less important it becomes.
