So, it's regrettably taking much longer than I had hoped for, but I can see some light at the end of the tunnel. His outdoors enclosure will be much easier, just four 2x12s in the middle of the yard, but this one... yikes. I've basically dedicated a room downstairs to him. A small room, but a room all the same. It'll end up being about 5.5' x 4' until he outgrows it, then I'll punt. There's still some work to do before he gets to move in, like moving the outlet on the far wall and maybe figuring out how to insulate the room so the heat stays in there better.

I'm confused. Is that just the hide or the enclosure? If he's getting the whole room, why not just attach insulated foam board to the walls to insulate and attach a couple 2x4's to the wall, one on each side and lay a piece of plywood on them for a covered hide? Keep the outlet down at tort level, get a plug in thermostat and plug in a portable heater too it. Block in the heat so it can't tip or tort touch it and fix a cover to the outlet or rig a cage over it so tort can't reach that either. Then hang one basking light.
