I picked Brutus up at the local reptile show. He showed severe pyrmiding and could hardly lift his own weight dragging his shell. He weighed 34 pounds and was 16 inches in length owner said he was 8 years old. many suggested MBD and I could see he was having some issues.
Its been 3 months of living outside in the balmy heat of central south carolina. he had round the clock grasing on assorted weeds and as much sun as he can stand not to mention a lot of soaking in his mud hole. we keep his diet varied and my wife treats him with fresh kale daily. His shell collapse has stopped and maybe even reversed a bit his weight is now 44 pounds. He is very mobile and fast and shows no dipping when he walks. I find it amazing that so many will get one of these amazing animals to look after and neglect them to a basement or darkend room.
anyway here are some pics of the Brutus and his newly built not yet finished hot house.
chilling
checking out the new digs
looks like a burrow
inside its 78 deg.
crusing along.
