Hello!
So i am Leanne and I have just brought a hermanns tortoise hatchling who is 3 months old.

Though i habe some concerns and wondered if you guys could help!!

I brought the tortoise last Thursday (uk)
Her shell is pliable but not soft. whoch i assume os like a babys soft spot and will harden as she grows.
She has uvb bulbs and heat lamps around 80f as was told to keep it around 74f abd everything ive read says 74f is too cold.

She has been eating well and i am supplementing with the smallest amount of nutrobol.

but she seems to be sleeping alot and burrowing herself.. I am wondering if she is trying to hibernate?
as well as this i am concerned shehas not defectaed since getting her.. she has passed ur8ne but no defecation though i have been bathing her.

Her name is pebble

Cute hatchling, congrats! I would bump the basking spot temperature up to 90f-95f. If the temp isn't warm enough, babies will burrow and sleep more instead of bask.

How often do you soak her and for how long? I recommend soaking babies every day for 30 minutes in warm water (you'll need to continually change out the water so it always stays warm). I soak all of mine every morning before their breakfast. It helps keep them hydrated and stimulates them to defecate (every single one of them poops every morning during their soak).

When I started daily soaks for my redfoot Darwin, I quickly found that the water in his bath cooled off pretty quickly ... I use a 60cc syringe (no needle) to spray him down, and also to switch out cool water and replace it with hot water (the idea being to keep his bath around 95F).

I agree with warming up the enclosure and doing daily soaks, but babies sleep a lot and you have a burrowing species so this is normal.

morning eveyone!

Thank you for your help!
I have warmed up the area and she is currently in a warm bath.

I think i am at fault.. as she is staying at my mother in laws until after christmas we realised this morning I hadn't turned the timer on so she has been getting to much day light! what an idiot!

finger crossed i havn't done any damage

Leanne
