Though generally not recommended on this site I've been using spahgnum moss with my Redfoots a couple years with no problems.
Do you mix it with the substrate or just place it on the surface?Though generally not recommended on this site I've been using spahgnum moss with my Redfoots a couple years with no problems.
On the surface and in the hides mostly.Do you mix it with the substrate or just place it on the surface?
I'm torn, as my two are adults I very much doubt they will eat it, however I'm not sure it's worth risking. They seem happy enough without the moss
You can place it in a corner and spray it down to keep humidity levels up. You don’t have to mix it in. I think it’s more down to preference. I believe some add it in the hides. So if the tort wants to go to a damp area they have that option.Do you mix it with the substrate or just place it on the surface?

Makes sense, thanks. On the surface and in the hides mostly.
I might add some moss one day as an experiment, see how they react and get on, but for now I'll keep it as it is given they're still settling inYou can place it in a corner and spray it down to keep humidity levels up. If they seem happy enough without it then I wouldn’t bother to be honest. But I’m sure they would appreciate a damp cool area to go to aswell.
Yes I saw it’s supposed to be hot tomorrow. It’s been warm today to be fair. I’ve been sat outside with my feet up sipping pink gin ?.I might add some moss one day as an experiment, see how they react and get on, but for now I'll keep it as it is given they're still settling in
Meant to be pretty hot tomorrow (34⁰C), which means my two will enjoy being out in the garden all day!!
Yeah true, has been pretty nice today. Lola is currently rummaging through the bushes in my garden.Yes I saw it’s supposed to be hot tomorrow. It’s been warm today to be fair. I’ve been sat outside with my feet up sipping pink gin ?.
cant wait till pumpkin is old enough to enjoy the outdoors more. With her only being 4 months old I only allow her half hour or so.
Yep I have indeed. But I’ve had since March to master the work from home thing lol.Yeah true, has been pretty nice today. Lola is currently rummaging through the bushes in my garden.
haha that's awesome, you've got this working from home stuff all figured out!
Ah yeah that's a good point, baby torts shouldn't be outside for long periods. It'll be nice when pumpkin can roam freely outdoors all day.
Pyramiding in these guys either happens or doesn't happen within the first 1-2 years of growth. At that point if they're smooth they'll continue to grow smooth. Or if they're Pyramiding they'll continue to Pyramiding unless the husbandry is corrected. You have nothing to worry about with your two when it comes to Pyramiding.Makes sense, thanks.
I've got a question regarding pyramiding I was hoping you can answer. Does it just affect hatchings (during periods of major growth) or can it be late onset and suddenly appear on an adult and continue to worsen with age?
Ah that's great thank you. That's put me much more at ease!Pyramiding in these guys either happens or doesn't happen within the first 1-2 years of growth. I haven't seen her eating any plants or grass outside yet. She did however gobble up some dog poo that I had obviously missed when de-turding the lawn lol.Yep I have indeed. But I’ve had since March to master the work from home thing lol.
Lola sounds awesome I can imagine her roaming around smelling out all them yummy greens haha.
and yes. That’s why I only give her half hour or So. Just so she can have a little wonder around. I’m always sat in kitchen or outside. When I’m sat outside my bearded dragon stares at me through the door giving me the evils. ?
Naaa she isn’t she runs round my house during day ?. I swear she thinks she’s a dog and not a bearded dragon.I haven't seen her eating any plants or grass outside yet. She did however gobble up some dog poo that I had obviously missed when de-turding the lawn lol.
Haha your bearded dragon just feels left out!
