Will my baby sulcata get parasites if I take him outside?

I have a baby sulcata that I recently bought from the pet store. I'm not sure how old he is, but he's about 2-3 inches long. I'm always seeing posts about letting your tortoise outside and feeding it plants from outside, but I was wondering, can that harm him? I thought animals from the pet store had to have a special parasite spray if you were going to let them outside. I let him outside for the first time today and fed him some clovers and dandelions. He seemed to really enjoy himself. He loved it! But I was wondering, can that harm him?

Hello and welcome to TFO.

In answer to your question: Maybe, maybe not. My tort lived outside 47 years and never picked up a parasite. Getting poop checked for parasites is straightforward. Just take a fresh sample to a vet.

However, babies are better off indoors in the warmth and humidity of a closed chamber, but once they get bigger they need to be outdoors.

I recommend you read the TFO care guides and compare them with your setup.

They're written by species experts working hard to correct the outdated information widely available on the internet and from pet stores and, sadly, from some breeders and vets too.
