Hi - I have a 4 year old Russian tortoise. This spring we noticed she has some white spots on her shell. Does anyone know what this might mean? We are worried about it. Could it be diet related?
I am attaching some photos. Thanks you so much for any advice!

Those are rub marks from a life in the wild. Weathering, is another way to put it.

Has nothing to do with food, and there is nothing to do about it.

Thank you. But she's not been in the wild. I am not sure if she has been able to rub her shell against anything in her wooden zoo med tortoise house.

Your tortoise is wild caught and over ten years of age. And the Zoo Med Tortoise House is way too small for your full grown russian tortoise.

The white spots are bone showing through where the keratin has been rubbed off. It's old damage, not painful, and needs no kind of care.
