Hi all, I'm a little worried about my boy - he's 2 and a half and seems to have a cold? He's sneezing and has bubbles round his nostrils and mouth and has a slightly swollen eye? I'm going to get him to the vet, but didn't know I there was more I could do before then? I've give him a vitamin bath, but he's not eating as much either?

Any ideas? Thanks

Hi borgs-mum:

Welcome to the Tortoise Forum!!

The best thing for you to do is take Borg to the vet. It sounds like he has a respiratory infection.

In the mean time, make his habitat warmer. Make it be over-all 80F degrees, and soak every day in vitamin water. The soaks won't help with the infection, but they will assure that he's continuing to get nutrients while he's not eating.

What would you like us to call you?

...and may we know appx. where in the world you are?

Thanks - I'm going to call them tomorrow and get him booked in, poor little thing keeps sneezing.

My name is Kiersty and I'm in the UK (Farnborough in Hampshire) - where are you based?

I'll keep up the vitamin baths and hope the vet can sort him out - he's such a little character! I've got him on a light sensing temperature gauge to moderate his day and night temps, so I'll get it turned up a bit on both to be on the safe side.

Thanks for your advise, can't believe there is a tortoise specific forum app!! Made my day!

Any update?

The best things you could do, besides taking him to a good vet, would be to increase the habitat temperatures and give him good long soaks.

The best thing you can do until u get him to the vet is bump up his temps.
If you heat him up a litttle more, it will help :)
