Yep that's an Asian box turtle. Cuora flavomarginata. These guys need quite a bit more moisture and damp substrate than the chunks you got him on. I'd also start feeding on a stone so it's beak can get filed down. Adjusting the diet too with help with that, as it seemed to be not a normal growth of overgrown beak(if that makes sense). Lots of plants for them to hide under and much moist and damp enclosure. I would add a couple bricks of peat moss or coco coir to that substrate and mist him/fog him a few times a day.
What are you feeding him now?
Thanks! Im going to a reptile specialist on wednseday and theyre going to give me some calcium meds for her :]Thats what it looks like to me an Asian box turtle . If you give her calcium and the right foods she will be beautiful again .
I would just supplement it with adding a cuddle bone in her enclosure, and sprinkle calcium powder on the food. I would let them give her an injectable of calcium. Thanks! Im going to a reptile specialist on wednseday and theyre going to give me some calcium meds for her :]
Okay thanks so much! I have a 50 gallon tank that the previous owners gave me. Im thinking about making a wooden one but I want it to stay humid and my house gets pretty dry so I feel like maybe the tank will be good until next summer? And they arent going to inject anything I think theyre just going to give me the powderI'd use coco coir or peat moss mixed with cypress or hardwood mulch and a bed of sphagnum moss over top of that. Plants would include, Pothos ivy, small palms and even some fake decor will work. I'd also put a large water tub in with her. These guys love water a lot. Warm temps 88 and humid as you can get it. Cool nights mid to high 70s. Offer lots of hides too. I'd feed mushrooms, some fruits, snails, greens, boiled eggs, crickets even, and put a cuddle bone in her enclosure too to munch on. UVB light I'd go with a 5.0 tube bulb. What size enclosure do you have?
Okay and I've noticed! Shes veryyyy active :]Ah ok. Yeah 50 gallon will work fine for now. These guys don't get very big anyways. But sure do love to move around.
She's probably pretty stressed. Sometimes a super active tortoise or turtle means there really trying to get out. But with her moving and being set up with you the new owner she's gonna be stressed. Just make sure she doesn't get too hot or cold.Okay and I've noticed! Shes veryyyy active :]
She doesnt try to climb the tank or anything but she kept going in her hiding spot and out and in like going in circles and okayShe's probably pretty stressed. She should be just fine. Just set her up with a new moist setup with plants and large water dish and all will be good. She doesnt try to climb the tank or anything but she kept going in her hiding spot and out and in like going in circles and okay
Okay thanks! I have a water dish for her that she fits in but idk if it should be bigger or more shallow? She flipped in it yesterday and I flipped her over since her head was under waterShe should be just fine. Just set her up with a new moist setup with plants and large water dish and all will be good.
I brought her to the vet yesterday (thats when I got her) and we're seeing a specialist on Wednesdayyou really need to get this turtle in to see someone who knows about turtles. That beak will NEVER straighten out by itself. Those curly parts need to be clipped off. Left as is, even feeding on a rough surface, the beak will continue to grow upwards.
Alright ill start researching for a better habitat to build that will also stay humid. Thanks for all your help I really appreciate it. I've never had a box turtle only an aquatic turtle so im not really sure what to do and you've helped me a lot! I want to give her the best life I can because clearly shes had a pretty bad lifeI'd go a little more shallow. Maybe use like a lid to a tub or something. Or even a paint roller tray would work great. Definitely add some plants and more places for her to hide. Turtles/tortoises have to feel secure in their surrounding, looks like a 50 gallon tall tank. When you do get a chance I'd upgrade ASAP for room room.
