what is uri

hello im new to all this just got a 4 week old sulcata had him for few days now he doing well im trying to follow what everyone else is doing just finding it hard to under stand all the abrevations like uri is and some overs if some one could list them all that would be cool thank matt

Matt, welcome to the forum. This is a great place to learn how to care for your tortoise. A URI is an Upper Respiratory Infection. Sometimes it is abbreviated as RI for respiratory infection. I have seen threads that discuss Lower Respiratory Infections. They are quite serious and require antibiotics to treat the tortoise. Like you I am new to raising a tortoise. It seems to me that the best way to avoid a URI is to keep the environment warm and clean and to ensure the tort has a healthy diet.
