Found this guy in our yard some time ago and always wondered what he is!

I looks like CDT (California Desert Tortoise) to me. More picture would help.

Depending upon where you are, it's either a California desert tortoise or a Sonoran desert tortoise. Basically the same animal. Or, if you're on the east coast, it's a gopher tortoise.

Definitely a gopher tortoise they are all over Florida and they're protected by law he can be your friendly neighborhood pet as long as you don't take him inside your house or anywhere else to relocate him... I live on a few acres of land and I have thousands of them ..some are nice some are not lol sometimes I like to bring them snacks/ hibiscus flowers and leafs they also love petunias iv noticed (they ate all my bushs n plants ) those petunias didn't stand a chance
