This is the pic of his dry patch on the back of his neck. What causes this and how can I help him to get rid of it?

Let me know what you think of him. Im think he is dry. When we first got him I just thought that he was dirty, but know I thinking he was Very dry.

Today he is doing a little bit better!!! I have upped the temps and kept a towel on top of the enclosure to help with humidity.
The humidity is now in the 80s and up to the 90 at night. He did NOT stay under the heat light all day either!
I went to feed him this morn and he was hanging out in his water dish (all by him self!!). He ate a little.
Then this pm I removed him from his hide and gave him a warm soak. I fed him cucumber with calcium, spring mix and some egg whites. He chowed down!!!
Im hoping that he continues to get better and better.

Nice! Covering it will help. Aluminum foil or plastic wrap will make a quick, big difference. Getting a piece of plastic sheet to cover most of the top might be a better long-term option.

You can also make things more interesting for him by adding more hides and things to do or explore. Grab some clean bark and prop it up on one end, get something like palm leaves and layer them for several hiding options, etc. Places to hide, climb on, and so on seems to make them happy.

Thanks Mark,
I do have half the enclosure covered with a firm plastic and the other half with the wire mesh to hold the lights. We will be switching this to a wood cover with holes for the lights for morning and night. I think this will do for long term.
I will keep you posted on how he is doing in the next couple of days. Thanks everyone for your help!!!

My redfoot was acting the same way but I think it's because it was too cold in the room where I have him. So I started asking people about it on here and they said that he is probably cold so I turned on the furnace in that room and am keeping it humid in there and he is much happier and is eating again! I think your tort might still be a little cold because he's under the lamp. So try making it a little warmer and see what happens.
