I have a 7 year old female Burmese Brown Mountain Tortoise who is about 14" carapace length. We live in WI so in the winter she is an indoor tortoise. Does anyone have any ideas for getting water to her that doesn't include a large pool for her to wade in? How well do tortoises use water dishes? I'm getting frustrated of her pooping in her water! I want to take away the pool of water (I would do controlled soakings instead a few times a week). Any ideas would be great!

Most, if not all species seem to love to poop in water.
You could try a gigantic terra cotta saucer. Maybe it won't be deep enough to stimulate that reaction.
I've tried both bigger and smaller, and they seem to find a way(especially the Hermann's and baby Leopards); I've just resigned myself to the idea that every morning I will be cleaning out all water bowls. Since saucers are cheap, it's easy to have enough spares to just replace with a new one so you can clean them later in the day/let them soak in soapy water or whatever. Then the next day, the old become the new.
