Hi Debbie...dogs come in breeds, tortoises and turtles come in species...:p
I have a few different box turtles and they are all adult and less than a pound.
I have Natasha the obese Russian and she is 5 inches and so fat the scale broke under her weight...

The Leopard is closely related to the Sulcata and is considered the 4th largest Tortoise on earth...they will get upwards of 20+ inches and could get up to about 120 pounds

Red Foots get about 12 inches

The rest under 12 inches

Northern Leopard - G. pardalis babcocki 14+"
Southern Leopard - G. pardalis pardalis 24+"

Northern Redfoot - G. carbonaria 15-16"
Brazilian Redfoot - G. carbonaria 12-13"
Southern Redfoot - G. carbonaria 20+"

Keep in mind it takes 15-20+ years to reach these sizes.. and there are always exceptions and extremes!

And of course the sulcata.. from the Alligator Adventure located at N. Myrtle Beach, SC .. http://www.alligatoradventure.com/

Hermanns males average 5 to 7 inches and females 6 to 9 inches
Russian males average 5 inches and females 6 to 8 inches

With Box turtles it depends on the species and subspecies, but 4 to 8 inches is the average.
