What is the correct UVI range for a Western Hermman
Will be using a 12% Arcadia T5 prokit
Trying to establish how high I need the set up to get to correct UVI level

I'm not a lighting expert, but I think you want UVB, not UVI.

This is highly debatable and different people will have different opinions. I think there are two main ways to go, with a lot of potential gray area in the middle.
  1. A lower level UVI, say around 2-4, and leave it on all day.
  2. A higher level UVI, say 6-7, and only have the UV on for a few hours mid day.
With either method, shaded and hiding areas are a must. I prefer the 2nd method because it simulates the higher UV levels of mid day which occur naturally outside, and because it makes the expensive bulbs last for years since they run a lot fewer hours per day.
