Hey all I just had a new russian hatch out and when I was checking it out I noticed what looks like a prolapse in its umbilicus. I was wondering if anyone else has ever had this happen to one of their hatchlings and if so what were you able to do about it. I am thinking that this might require a vet visit any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Jon

Ok I have some pics of it. I just had another one hatch out and it has the same problem only it seems worse. Both came from the same female

I know the pics are blurry but I think you can see the prolapse in the middle

Kind of blurry, but are you sure its not just the yolk that hasn't resorbed yet? Put some antibiotic ointment on it so it doesn't dry out, and just wait to see if it doens't reduce on its own.

It may be the yolk. The off color is what has me concerned. I talked to the vet he thinks that it may be an umbilicus. He thinks that if it was anything else the chances that they would still be alive are slim. He suggested I try to push it back in with a Q-tip. I kind of tried, but it really didn't move so I did put some antibiotic cream on them and I am going to wait it out and see what happens. If I don't think that it is getting any better my vet said that he will see me right away.

Push it back in?? :/
Hmm, well hopefully it'll just absorb on it's own!
Best of luck!!

How old are they? Hours? days?
keep moist.. ?
have you had hatchlings before? or just these two to compare?
I never have, so no clue.. anyone else? How long does it take for the yolk sac to absorb?

I will try and take some better pics tomorrow.
I have had other hatchlings and have not seen this before that is why I am concerned.
