They are not a pet for everyone. They do require a lot of space once they get big, from the pic it looks like your cousins snapper is already pretty big.

If it is to be kept as a pet, then remember that they are fully aquatic turtles. Keep the water warm - high 70's to low 80's. They are also exclusively carnivorous, feeding on fish, worms, and given half a chance, ducklings. I do hope you'll keep that last item off the menu, though.
