Turt or tort?

They are not a pet for everyone. They do require a lot of space once they get big, from the pic it looks like your cousins snapper is already pretty big.

Yeah ... let it go.

If it is to be kept as a pet, then remember that they are fully aquatic turtles. Keep the water warm - high 70's to low 80's. They are also exclusively carnivorous, feeding on fish, worms, and given half a chance, ducklings. I do hope you'll keep that last item off the menu, though.

Yep, I already talked them into letting it go. They released it back where they found it yesterday. Thanks for the advice. Funny you should mention ducklings. The turning point in letting it go, was me saying how much they love ducklings.

Ha ha! Yeah, anything that gobbles up little duckies should be nobody's pet. Anyway, I'm glad to hear they set it free again. See, you're not such a mean guy after all.

http://chelydra.org/ is also a great place to learn about snappers. And as what others said, they're not an appropriate pet for most people and you would need a LOT of raw dedication (as well as money and space, not to mention a coorperative family ) to properly care for one.
