Hi, my name is Kim from FL. I presently have 2 tortoises; 1 Russian female, Bella, and a male Marginated, Taco. I need to know how to properly file Bella's beak. We got them from someone who had them for "show" purposes, not to love, so now I'm in the dilema with this. We really don't have a lot of money, so is there anything I can do for her? Please help. Thanks so much and I look forward to hearing from anyone who can assist. Kim

I would not try to file it if you don't know what your doing. If you put her food on a rough tile or cement stepping stone that will help as she eats it will help to file the beak. Do you offer cuttlebone? That will also help. Other than that you would need to take her to a vet or someone that knows how to file beaks. I would love to see pics :)

Hi Kim:

Welcome to the forum!!

I usually use a toe nail clipper on the smaller tortoises' beaks. Just clip off little bites at a time.

You can also use a Dremmel tool. It grinds off the edge.
