Morning

Before I ask my question I’ll give you a small intro……my name is Ian and have wanted a tortoise for ages. I was given a 4yr old hermans tortoise called Sebastian from my wife for Christmas, he’s my first tortoise so no doubt I’ll be on here tons ask loads of questions every 5 seconds.

I’m in the middle of making up a tortoise table for him made from an Argos bookcase and need some way of attaching a heat lamp and UV lamp, originally I was going to buy some clip on lamps but have now decided to screw some lamp holders to the inside of the bookcase (Obviously with holes for wiring too)

I was wondering if these holders would be ok or if I’d need something more specialised for the job? Can anyone recommend any?

Here is the clip on lamp holder

Thank you in advance for any advice

Hi Ian and welcome to the Forum!

In my opinion, hanging the lights is the best option. This way you can raise or lower to gain the proper temperature. You can either build or buy a stand, or put hooks in the ceiling.

hi there ian.
ihave used these fittings in the past, now i know better!
due to the heat produced by the lamps these fittings soon discolour and become brittle, eventually the contacts become loose and dangerous.
go for the ceramic ones, they will last a life time and will not burn down your home.
;)
