I thought about this the other day when I realized how much time I devote to these guys...:tort:

From cleaning, soaking, preparing food to yard maintenance, scooping poop...you get the idea...how much time do you devote daily to your tortoises?:tort:

The choices were determined by actual 'hands on' time...which would include observing...hence the choice of >6 hours! Time spent on TFO, Shelled Warriors, AfricanTortoise, Sulcata-Station...albeit GREAT sites...don't count in this poll...but it does give me an idea:D

Yeah I can see the forum not being included, but surely all the time I spend researching taxonomy, husbandry, medicine and the nutritional values of foods and the safety of weeds must be considered time spent in the care of my animals...........no?

I would say an average, some days are shorter and some are longer, like egg laying season!

It varies for me based on season. Mine are very labor intensive when indoors. I spend about 2-3 hours per day on average caring for them when indoors. Sometime less, sometimes more, depends on what needs to be done. Outdoors around 1-2 hours daily average.

I only have two little torts and one boxie so it doesn't take that much time to feed, change water, pick up poop etc.... I think what takes the most time is checking on them constantly when they are outside and maybe picking food, but it is very relaxing work.
BTW~ I think yhe polls are fun:)

I've been so busy lately it seems like I'm just spending enough time with Noodle to feed him, change his water, and mist him. Poor neglected man!
In the summer I spend a lot of time with him outside, watching him roam around :)

Because of my location the actual physical time spent with my tortoises is right around an hour. This time of year with all the hatchlings takes more time of course. You didnt tell us how much time you spend Dean. Im sure it varies for you depending on the season.

I can vary day to day, like today I got up at 9:30am put Tejas in his small tub to soak then spent the next 20 minutes making them both Tortoise Lasagna and going back and forth checking on Tejas. then I fed them both. At 11:00 oclock we headed to home depot for some wood to make modifications on Vegas's enclosure then from 11:45 to 2:30 we were working on the enclosure. Then after I left for work, my wife spent another 2 hours doing what she could.

Now once we have it complete, it will be back to about 4-6 per day until the next big project...
